This project continues in developing research capability in the broad area of wireless networked information systems and continued the general concept of the InfoCity.
The focus of the research is centered on the example of the university/college campus, i.e., theĀ InfoCampus. The 2001 research projects of the Stevens team were designed to advance the understanding and implementation of these user driven features, drawing on the InfoCampus student community as the primary user group.
The following topics are being addressed by the Services & Applications Group in 2002:
Architectures for Laptop Based Wireless LANs
R. Chandramouli and S. Tewksbury, Stevens
A layered system architecture will be developed for InfoCampus wireless systems.
RF Power Detection
Y. Yao, Stevens
Development and evaluation of efficient packet access schemes for real-time and non-real-time traffic types.
Architectures for Ad Hoc Networks
H. Man, Stevens
This project will work on protocols for efficient link layer, network layer and transport layer operations in Ad Hoc networks.
Interference Effects in InforCampus Applications
Y.D. Yao, Stevens
Many of the InfoCampus wireless LAN applications involve clusters of relatively stationary users assembled in a relatively small area (classroom, lounge, class-on-grass, etc.) The research tasks here will characterize the various interference effects in a CDMA wireless LAN for these clustered applications, including the two cases of and indoor classroom facility and an outdoors “class-on-grass” classroom without reflecting/absorbing walls. Performance parameters of interest included error rates, data transfer rates, RF power levels, complexity/cost of transceiver, etc. The focus will be on channel and interference characterization. We will evaluate the wireless channels in terms of outage probabilities and LCR/AFD.
Multipath Fading Mitigation
H. Li, Stevens
We will work on the development of space-time coding algorithms for frequency-selective and fast fading channels.
Synchronization
H. Li and U. Tureli, Stevens
Development and performance evaluation of new sychronization schemes for DS-CDMA and OFDM systems.
InfoCampus Wireless LAN Testbed
U. Tureli, Stevens
Completion of wireless testbed development. System and algorithm evaluation will be done using the wireless testbed.
